the gentleman who gave his speech at ruan+sarah’s wedding said it best, “your wedding will always be remembered and talked about for years to come”. so true, for this south surrey wedding was certainly one i’ll never forget.
with wind storms and pouring rain, it certainly was not the ideal the wedding weather, but these two handled it with calmness and never let the stress of the day impact their wedding in any way. the unthinkable really happened 30 seconds before sarah was going to walk down the aisle, the power goes out. the 200+ guests waited patiently and my palms started sweating, lol. then i kicked it in to overdrive and starting thinking, where’s the light coming from, what are my settings, iso, aperature, flash….the show must go on and thankfully as i am skilled professional, i could handle this type of situation, with sweaty palms of course, lol. the minister said, “well for those of you who prayed for a romantic candle-lit ceremony, your prayers were answered”.
the power came back on a few hours later for the reception and the sun even came out during our portrait section. someone was looking out for them.
ruan+sarah’s wedding was a do-it-yourself dream! simple, elegant decor mixed with teas, flowers and gorgeous centre pieces. the bride’s mother made her dress and the bridesmaids dresses too!
it was such a pleasure to capture your day, regardless if things did not go as planned. i am reminded to simply adapt, stay calm and carry on. you have a beautiful family and lovely friends who really made me feel welcome and were so helpful throughout the whole day, thank you for choosing me to document your day.
wishing you a lifetime of calm love and adapting to life’s surprises,
